AI Is Opening Doors For Everyone

I believe this isn't just another tech trend. It's a genuine opportunity for people to build businesses and pursue ideas that might have otherwise been out of reach. I didn’t have most of the knowledge or tools to offer these services two months ago. I'm a medical scientist with no tech expertise, which is actually my strength. I understand the journey, the pitfalls, and since I'm not wrapped up in the technical side, I can talk about AI in a way that actually makes sense to us non-techies! If I can get on board, you absolutely can too.
Discovering The Problem
It started with trying to help my mum and aunt to use AI. I was dabbling here and there, and excited about how these tools were transforming my own work. After getting them set up, I looked for a simple resource that they could use to reference the basics. When I'd Google "how to use AI for business," I'd find myself drowning in technical jargon and overwhelming "beginner" guides that felt anything but beginner-friendly. I ended up creating quick cheat sheet to help them get started. But I didn’t follow up, and unsurprisingly, it didn't stick for either of them (despite it being well within their technical reach). That's when I saw the real disconnect.
From Personal Use To Knowledge Sharing
What started as finding ways to make my own work more efficient turned into a revelation about the transformative power of AI. Take this blog post, for example. I'm able to take my scattered thoughts, recorded as voice notes, and transform them into structured, professional content. Before AI, this would have theoretically meant hours of organizing, writing, and editing - or hiring someone. The reality is that I just wouldn’t have done it.
Even now, I sometimes catch myself forgetting just how many different roles and tasks AI can help with - the scope is truly staggering. At the end of the post, I've included an expandable list of all the different roles AI can play - I often forget the breadth of opportunity as I focus on one specific area. Every so often I take a look at lists like these to see if there's anything I'm doing manually that can be taken off my plate - feel free to bookmark and do the same.
I've lived both sides of this story. I've seen tasks that would have required an entire team of experts - copywriters, designers, researchers, legal consultants - become manageable with the right AI tools. Is it exactly the same as having a team of experts? No. But is it way better than either struggling alone or not doing it at all? Absolutely.
Getting Started + Moving Forward
The best part about getting started with AI is that you don't need to understand how it works (that can come later). You just need to know what you want to achieve. Actually, sometimes you don’t even need that. An illustrative prompt construction (delivered by voice) that I use far too often is:
"I don't yet know what outcome I'm seeking. Help me work it out.
[Then I literally just dump all my thoughts on the topic as if I’m talking to a real person]."
Most of the time, the response directly or indirectly give me a sense of direction. Even the most basic of prompting rules aren’t rigid. We are using AI to carve out our own path, on our own terms. I think that's pretty amazing and definitely worth a try.
P.S. Stay tuned for my next post where I'll walk you through exactly how I use AI to create blog posts, as an example. No tech degree required…
